Did you attend the Career Advancement Clinic sponsored by PMI Mass Bay? If not you missed a lot!
PMI MassBay’s Career Advancement Clinics are always well attended events and the CAC in June was no exception. Attendees were provided the opportunity to participate in a variety of career enhancing activities throughout the evening. It was held on Thursday June 15, 2017 at the Verizon Technology Center in Waltham, MA.
So, what did you miss?
First, participants had the chance to meet local agency and corporate recruiters face to face who were available to discuss their current and future Project Management and Business Analyst job openings. Participants took full advantage of this opportunity to create a memorable first impression and to learn more about what each of the companies had to offer. The recruiters accepted resumes and answered questions about their hiring needs, interview processes and company cultures. Many have scheduled in person interviews as a result. Special thanks to our recruiting sponsors: Verizon, IPM, CEI Group, TEKSystems, ISO Partners, MassDOT, and ProbityIT.
Second, Katherine Moody presented a lively presentation and discussion about Interview Preparation Best Practices for Project Managers. She spoke about the importance of creating your personal Brand and provided a step-by-step Interview Preparation process. She also answered participants’ questions with honest and frank advice. Katherine is a Senior Executive Recruiter and author on the subject and a frequent speaker at our Career Advancement Clinic events.
Third, the networking area was lined with career help resources, including PMI-ACP certification advisers and University representatives from Suffolk’s eMBA program. Anthony Hines was back again, providing free interview and job search coaching to job seekers.
Finally, Eric Marx from ProbityIT offered free resume coaching and volunteers offered the chance for participants to try a simulated video interviewing exercise. Video Interviewing is becoming a popular method for first round screening for many companies, which can make new candidates nervous. Participants were provided an interview question to answer on camera and the resulting videos were shared privately with each participant for their own critique.
The demographic ranged from graduating seniors from our local universities to mid-career and senior level Project Managers. People from all industries were in attendance, including Life Sciences, HealthCare, High Tech, Insurance and Banking, Professional Services, and more. There was something for everyone, including a light dinner.
Our next Career Advancement Clinic is being planned for November 2017 in Boston. Be certain to get on our mailing list at pmimassbay.org and watch the events calendar for an announcement.
